يهدف هذا البحث إلى بيان فضل التفسير والحاجة إليه، ثم الوقوف على نشأة علم التفسير وتطوره،  وبيان مراحله، وهي أربعة، التفسير على عهد رسول الله ﷺ، والتفسير على عهد الصحابة –رضوان الله عليهم- ، والتفسير في عهد التابعين وآراء العلماء فيه، والتفسير في عصر التدوين، كما وقف البحث على طبقات المفسرين، وتقسيم التفسير إلى التفسير بالمأثور والتفسير بالرأي، وحكمته وسبب الاختلاف فيه، وخلص البحث إلى أن المنهج الصواب في التفسير أن يطلب المفسر المعنى من القرآن، فإن لم يجده طلبه من السنة، وإن أعياه الطلب رجع إلى قول الصحابة، فإن لم يجد فعليه بالاجتهاد
This research aims to explain the virtue of interpretation and the need for it, then to stand on the origins and development of the science of interpretation, and to explain its stages, which are four, interpretation at the time of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and interpretation at the time of the Companions - may God be pleased with them - and interpretation during the era of the followers and the opinions of scholars in it, and interpretation In the era of codification, the research also focused on the layers of interpreters, and the division of interpretation into interpretation by tradition and interpretation by opinion, and its wisdom and the reason for the difference in it. To say the companions, and if he did not find it, he should diligently.
